Beverly (Bootsie)'s Story
Born in Sumter, Daddy in civil service at Shaw, started Hillcrest in 1st grade in 1948. After 1st grade moved to Sumter, stayed there until 8th grade, moved back behind base on 441, Daddy opened a "juke Joint" called White House, Mama ran it while Daddy still in civil service. Had fun in my high school years at Hillcrest. Married Steve Pace in 1960, 1st time, had 2 children, Steve,III and Tami, divorced 1968, met and married Jimmy Bateman 1971, had one son, Jamie, and Jimmy died in 2007 after fighting various cancers and undergoing a stem cell transplant in 2003. Have 4 grands, Will, 16, Chris 14, Camryn 6 and Burns 2. Worked as Office manager for attorney's and Judge in Sumter for over 15 years, the office manager for periodontist for 10 years.
Worked for Fed Gov for 7 years in a grant program for low income 55 and older. Retired when Jimmy got sick and was undergoing chemo and radiation treatment in hospitals in Columbia and Wake Forest . Went bac...Expand for more
k to work last year 2 days a week for a friend who owns a carpet store, gets me out of house. Love living at the lake, where life is so laid back and no sounds at nite except the crickets, frogs and birds. Can go outsie anywhere from 12-4 in morning and so peaceful with nothing moving except birds chirping. Our new home was completed in 2007 and Jimmy only lived in it 2 weeks before he had brain stem stroke. He loved this lake, as we both were raised on it from youngsters to teens where we learned to ski. We bought a lot in 1968 and this was our escape from reality. All 3 children were raised on the lake and fortunately all 4 grands have followed in the footsteps of their parents by loving the water. What more could a grandmother ask for when my entire family is here for weekends and weeks in the summer.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have prayed, bible study, and see that my dogs are taken care of to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
